Blind Embossed
Foil embossing is combining both foil stamping and embossing either with a foil embossing die or embossing an image that was previously flat foil stamped known as stamp and bump.
Blind embossed. For example our 2 inch faux wood blind in white is the same color as the 2 inch faux wood blind in embossed white. The blind embossing process provides a clean and distinctive or subtle image on paper stock. The classy embossed finish of this blind reflects the natural texture and beauty of real wood which immediately elevates its style and coordinates beautifully with a variety of interior design schemes including the classic and the contemporary.
However instead of smooth slats the slats have etched markings to resemble real wood. Blind embossing is an image pressed into the paper creating a three dimensional design without the use of ink foil or pigment. See also heat embossing.
In this process two metal dies are used. When a sheet of paper is pressed between these dies blind embossing occurs. Line art and typography for embossing should be proofed at reproduction size.
Blind embossing creates a more subtle effect. Blind embossing creates a contrast in the paper surface it s most effective on lightly textured paper stocks or laid sheets with designs that aren t too busy. Blind embossing is very similar to the printing technique of die stamping or engraved printing however by not applying the ink and simply using the force of the machine to push the paper into the metal die to leave a raised impression an image is created where highlights and shadows define the typography or graphic.
Sometimes inspiration blossoms when your choices are limited and if you are used to printing with colour blind embossing will stretch your understanding of the printed surface introducing sculptural elements into your printmaking. Blind embossing involves pressing deep textures into paper creating subtle and dynamic images that change with the angle of light and the position of the viewer. Blind embossing basically flattens the paper in the embossed area so it is always more effective on textured paper stocks or laid sheets where it creates a contrast in the paper surface.
